A seminar on “Safe Water Supply and Sewage Treatment in Bangladesh” was organized by the Civil Engineering Division of the IEB. The event brought together senior engineers, policymakers, and sector professionals to discuss critical challenges and solutions related to water and sanitation.

The program was chaired by Engr. Muhammad Shafiqul Islam (Khoka). The seminar was graced by Chief Guest Engr. Khan Manjur Morshed (Vice-President, Academic & International) along with Special Guests Engr. Shaikh Al Amin, Engr. Niaz Uddin Bhuiyan, and Engr. A. T. M. Tanbir-ul Hasan (Tamal), highlighting the importance of institutional leadership in national water management.

Key Insights

Engr. Alamgir Hasin Ahmed (Dhaka WASA) shared field-based insights on operational constraints in metropolitan utilities, calling for urgent system expansion. The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. Engr. Nasir Uddin Khan (MD, Adroit Environment Consultants Ltd.), who presented an evidence-based overview of rural and urban water supply challenges, linking untreated discharges to SDG 6 hurdles. He proposed practical, decentralized treatment solutions for areas lacking centralized sewer networks.

The session saw active engagement from high officials of Dhaka WASA, BWDB, DPHE, LGED, and City Corporations, concluding with a vote of thanks by Engr. Md. Aynul Kabir.
